Due to its newness in the market, integrating solar tiles into your projects may seem daunting, but Volt’s advanced technology and streamlined processes have made it easier than ever. With years of product development and a widespread installer network across Australia, Volt ensures efficient integration into your build project.
Understanding the Distinction between Solar Roof Tiles and Solar Panels
Solar roof tile is an innovative solar energy solution that seamlessly integrates into the roofing system. While both solar tiles and solar panels generate clean energy, solar tiles are aesthetically superior compared to solar panels which are bulky and stand out on your roof.
Can I Install Volt Solar Roof Tiles for My Project?
It is important to note that Volt Solar Tiles can only be installed during a re-roofing or new home construction due to their integration nature. This is because a specific roof batten spacing is required for Volt installation. In Australia, they are also exclusively compatible with Bristile Roofing’s terracotta and concrete roof tiles in Planum, Premiere, Eton, and Prestige Ranges.
Volt’s Terracotta and Concrete Roof Tile Pairing
Terracotta Roof Tiles
Volt’s Planum range pairs with Bristile Roofing's Planum roof tiles for its terracotta roof tile pairing. This roof tile range is known for its clean, smooth surface profile, creating a streamlined look when paired with Volt Solar Tile. A variation of the Planum profile is its Blackstone range, which features a hint of textured surface for added detail. The Planum range offers a diverse palette of colours, including the poplar dark shades such as Caviar and Black Diamond, as well as lighter options like ghost white.
Concrete Roof Tile
For concrete roof tiles, Volt's Lodge range is compatible with Bristile Roofing’s Prestige, Eton, and Premiere profiles. Each profile offers unique textures and finishes, providing options to suit different architectural styles. The color palette for concrete tiles leans towards grayscale hues inspired by the Australian landscape, offering shades like Deep Shadow and Aspen.
Volt Solar Tiles Installation Process for Builders
The good news is that the installation process of Volt Solar Tiles on reroofing and new build projects is highly efficient. Their integrated design enables direct installation onto the same battens as the roof tiles, eliminating the need for additional setup or flashing. Simultaneous installation with roof tiles also reduces lead time when compared to separate installations typically seen in solar panel installations, allowing scaffolding to be removed earlier. Here’s a breakdown of the steps involved in Volt’s installation:
Step 1: Assessing and Qualifying your Project for Volt Install
Upon expressing your interest, our team will be in contact to qualify your projects. We will analyse your drawing, home energy requirements, and location to determine whether your project is suitable for a Volt Solar Tile system.
Step 2: Design Consultation
For boutique or premium builders, we offer customised system designs, collaborating with you and your client to determine your preferred components, from the roofing profile to solar components such as batteries or inverters. You can choose to be involved in the process or leave it entirely to Volt, allowing you to focus on other aspects of your project. Once you are satisfied with the design, we will send an estimated quote that you can accept before proceeding to the next step.
For Volume Builder, we will instead supply a standardised system pricing and train your sales agents on the benefits of Volt. We will provide standardised system designs and electrical requirements for your standard home offerings.
Step 3: Installation Handover
We will then relay your project to one of our Volt-accredited installer partners in your area. This will ensure speedy delivery while ensuring that your Volt system is installed up to standard. Similarly, we will also coordinate roof installation with Bristile Roofing’s roofing contractors closest to you.
Step 4: Installation day
On installation day, Volt will project manage all trades present, including solar and roofing installers, to ensure alignment with your schedule. Our team will also coordinate with your site electrician to ensure seamless integration of the solar and battery backup system.
Typically, installation takes 2 days to a week for re-roofing projects, depending on the system and roof size. Meanwhile, new builds are quicker since the build structure is inherently square and level, eliminating the need to strip existing roofing. Moreover, cabling for new homes can be done before wall sheeting, further streamlining the installation timeline.
Step 5: Post-Installation
After the roof and solar installation are completed, our installers and roofers won't need to walk on or make penetrations in your brand-new roof, eliminating potential damage and warranty issues.
Following this, our Volt installer partner will manage all necessary paperwork, such as submitting required documents to your DNSP (Distributed Network Service Provider) and electricity retailer to register your solar system. Additionally, Bristile Roofing Contractor will sign off on the entire roof’s compliance, including Volt solar tiles, as part of your builder’s warranty.
